A new set of bowls, made for Daisy and Adam as a wedding present, have encouraged me to take up ceramics again - have therefore purchased on Ebay (for £47 !!) a Leech kickwheel from Slough, which I haven't used yet, but it's only a matter of time. Thinking also of getting hold of a kiln one way or another so I can be self sufficient as and when the muse takes me.
The glaze of these bowls should have been matt-white stoneware - either the label was wrong or the kiln temperature was too high/low. One way or another, the finished effect is very nice (I think) and I'm happy with them - all part of the mystery of alchemy.
They look nice Simon...I know kilns are pricey when I looked into that...I realised that a hole in the garden would be cheaper....But I haven't got a garden...45 gallon drum on roof terrace..haven't tried that yet either!!
ReplyDeleteAnyway..Happy New Year for 2012!
Hi Rod - and a happy New Year to you too. Done quite a bit of wheel throwing over the years, but have always gone to the local adult education college and booked myself in for 8 week evening courses. Now I'm keen to take it a step further and start investigating FIY (fire it yourself!). Should be a fun project for 2012.
